New clips tease the return of the Robot Wars House Robots
Ahead of filming for the new series of Robot Wars in March, the BBC and production company Mentorn have released a series of teaser videos to promote the return of the House Robots.
Update 24/02/16 - Sir Killalot has now also been confirmed (scroll down for the latest teaser video)!
The short clips all but confirm that fan favourites Matilda, Dead Metal and Shunt are returning for the new series.
In the videos they appear to remain true to their original appearances, although it is anticipated that they will receive significant upgrades to bring them up to the standards required to counter the threat of today's competitor robots. Things have moved on considerably since Robot Wars went off air over 12 years ago.
The new series will also allow competing robots to weigh up to 110kg, a 10% increase over the original show. This means that without upgrades some of the lighter House Robots, particularly Shunt, Dead Metal and Matilda, would only narrowly top the competitor robots on the scales.
Further videos are expected to be released in the weeks before filming begins featuring more of the House Robots. New host Dara O Briain previously tweeted that he expects Sir Killalot to return in an upgraded form, so only Sgt Bash is left so-far unconfirmed out of the original five.
Update 24/02/16 Sir Killalot has now also been confirmed (scroll down for the latest teaser video)!
There has been no word on whether the more recent but less iconic House Robots will also be making a comeback. Mr Psycho and Growler joined the show in Series 6, and Cassius Chrome in Series 7. The Refbot has also yet to be confirmed.
Whether or not the new series will introduce any new House Robots remains to be seen.
